PERSONALITY AND SEXUAL PREFERENCE;

Cocky, arrogant yet loyal and compassionate, Abarai Renji (Renji Abarai, take your pick), is a bundle of conflicting emotions and personality traits. At times, he can be extremely vicious and otherwise malevolent to those who stand in his way. Yet, on the flip side, he has an uncanny loyalty to the people he cares about and he will defend them to the brink of his own death. And he is not without his fun loving side either. But when duty calls, he does whatever he can to fulfill the task presented before him. However, that does not mean he hasn't been known to go out on a rogue whim once and a while.

Sexual Preference and Why: Straight like an arrow. He likes women, but he usually doesn't pursue anything. Why does he like women? Because being with another man is just out of the question.

BACKGROUND;

Growing up as an orphan from the 78th District of Rukongai, Abarai Renji developed under the cruel fate of survival of the fittest. He, along with Rukia Kuchiki, squandered and hunted food during the earlier years of his life. For a while, the two ran with a pack of individuals they considered friends, despite the fact they both Renji and Rukia knew they both possessed high spiritual power. It was only when their band eventually died off did they decide to apply for a better life for themselves; this life was the life of a shinigami, better known as a Death God.

The shinigami academy welcomed Renji into their ranks. His swordsmanship earned him a place in the the highest class available despite his inability to manipulate the demon arts. However, as his schooling continued, his friendship with Rukia dissipated due to her adoption into the nobel Kuchiki family. Thus, he pressed on through his training, moving into the 11th division where he made it up the hierarchy to the 6th seat. When ordered to the world of the living, Renji was promoted to a lieutenant status under the Captain Kuchiki Byakuya. Seeing the power he could wield, Renji made it one of his goals to become a stronger shinigami than his Captain.

Ordered to arrest and capture Rukia due to her crime of bestowing her powers onto Ichigo and remaining in the human world for a longer period than ordered, Renji, along with Byakuya, followed and attacked Rukia. But he was stopped by Ichigo and later defeated by him. Fortunately, his Captain stepped in and decided to end the battle. Rukia was later taken by both Renji and Byakuya back into the Soul Society where she was condemned and put in confinement. For a while, things seemed to be going well of Renji - Rukia hadn't been sentenced to execution and there was no sign of Ichigo anywhere. However, as time passed, Abarai was informed that Rukia's execution would be scheduled and it would be pushed a few days early. Though displeased, Renji did his duty to bring her to the Tower of Penitence where she would live our her remaining sentence. Later on, during his second battle with Ichigo, Renji begins to regret the entire thing and once he loses the battle, he rejects the "Honorable" way of being defeated and pleads with Ichigo to save Rukia.

When Renji woke up, he had been arrested by his Captain himself. Byakuya explains that because he had gone alone to battle and lost, this was the punishment he deserved. But contrary to Byakuya's thinking, the confinement gave Renji some personal insight to his own zanpakutō's spirit, Zabimaru. The spirit wished another battle with Ichigo, but Renji refuses. He believes he and the rogue shinigami can now be considered allies and he has no desire to fight him any longer. Soon after the conversation, Abarai escaped the prison and goes to find Ichigo, who was inside an underground training ground to learn his final release. Deciding it would be best to finally call out his own final release, so he trained a bit until he can finally do it.

When he completed the task, Renji decided to go hunt for Rukia and try to save her without help from Ichigo. As expected, Byakuya stopped him and the two engaged in a duel with the loser being Renji. His Captain left him to die with his shawl. But luck, once again, came to Renji's aid as he was healed for the second time. This allowed him to lead a second campaign to save Rukia, but Ichigo was already there. Tossing her to Renji, Ichigo ordered the lieutenant to protect her at all costs. Renji humbly obliged. As the lieutenant made it down the stairs, however, he was teleported back to his original position by Kaname Tosen. Waiting there was Sosuke Aizen. Both Ichigo and Renji battle the other man, but both are defeated. When Aizen escaped, Renji returned to the hospital where Byakuya had been taken after sustained injury from Aizen while protecting Rukia. When asked why he returned, Renji simply replied that Byakuya was still his Captain.

After the fiasco was cleaned up, Renji was sent to the human world, a job formally made for Rukia. During his time there, he housed with Uraharu, where he was treated much like a free loader. Second helpings of food weren't permitted, which was frustrated to the shinigami, but he dealt with it. The only negative experience concerning Uraharu was coffee. Of course, later on, the threat of the vampiric race known as The Bounts came into play and soon, Renji was doing battle with them along side Ichigo and some of the captains and as predicted, the shinigami group won, driving back The Bounts.

It is only when the Arrancar show themselves, does Renji's powers become needed once again. With Rukia and a group of shinigami, Abarai goes to the human world for his second time to help assist Ichigo in his campaign against the Arrancar. As before, he stays with Urahara during his time in the human world. When the leader, Jaggerjack, launched his attack, Renji attacked the II Forte Granz. However, he was easily defeated at first. Eventually, after the II Forte Granz released his zanpakuto due to the sacrifice of Urahara's assistant, Renji eventually defeated it. After the battle, Renji returned to the shop to work on a few tasks for Urahara and trained Yasutora Sado under agreement with the shopkeeper.

When the second attack from the Arrancar comes along, Renji remained in the shop with Sado, though he tried to form a team to help bring Orihime back from the clutches of Aizen. Unfortunately, he was denied that and he had to return to the Soul Society. But later on, Byakuya granted him permission to return to fight with Ichigo. During the end of the arch, he was chased by a Hollow.

Now Renji is at the University to both study and by order of The Soul Society.
